Descripcion
Annual herbs, stems solitary (2 or 3), prostrate, 1–5 cm, simple, densely and uniformly leafy, arachnoid- lanuginose to whitish-woolly. Leaves 5–15 × 1–2 mm, obovate, attenuate at base, apex acute to obtuse, mu cronate; concolorous, arachnoid to whitish-woolly on both surfaces; trichomes long, eglandular, eseptate, with basal cells expanded. Capitula few, 2 or 3(6), in head like clusters, surrounded by linear leaves. Involucre narrowly campanulate, 3–4 × ca. 2 mm. Phyllaries ca. 20, 4-seriate, lamina light brown at apex; outer phyllar ies 2–2.7 × 1.1–1.5 mm, ovate, apex acute, lanuginose; inner phyllaries 3–4 × 0.6–1 mm, oblong-lanceolate, apex acute, glabrous. Pistillate florets 32 to 41, corolla ca. 2 mm. Bisexual florets 2 to 4, corolla ca. 2 mm, 5-lobed, anthers 5. Achenes 0.7–0.8 mm, pilose, with short, globose duplex trichomes. Pappus bristles ca. 2 mm.
Distribucion y Habitat
Gamochaeta oligantha occurs in southern Argentina (Cabrera, 1971; Freire & Iharlegui, 2014) and northern, central, and southern Chile (Freire et al., 2016) in the Andean-Patagonian dominion (Cabrera & Willink, 1973), at elevations be tween 30 and 980 m.
