Descripcion
Shrubs, subshrubs, vines, ca. 150–200 cm tall; stems branching, terete, striate, multistriate and mostly gla brous. Leaves opposite, petiolate, petiole 1.5–4(–5.5) cm, subglabrate to pubescent; blade 3–12(–15) cm, undivided or pinnatisect, 3-lobed (sometimes 5- to 7-lobed), triangular in outline, ultimate lobes longer than lateral lobes, lobes lanceolate to ovate, margins serrate, acute to acuminate, rounded to attenuate at the base, glabrous to pilose. Capitulescence grouped in corymbs, long-pedunculate, peduncles 0.5–2.3 cm, gla brous. Capitula radiate. Involucres 7.9–10 mm diam., campanulate. Phyllaries dimorphic, 2-seriate; outer phyllaries 5 to 8, 3–6.4 mm, linear to linear-spatulate, glabrous to pilose; inner phyllaries 8 to 10, 5–7.3 mm, lanceolate, glabrous to subglabrate. Ray florets 5 to 8, ray limbs 7–14(–25) mm, 3-lobed, yellow, glabrous. Disk florets 11 to 20(to 30), corollas tubulose, 4–9 mm, yellow, subglabrate. Cypselae 6–9(–13) mm, isomor phic, fusiform, brown to black, pilose, pappus 4.8–5.1 mm, awns 2, erect when immature, soon spreading out ward to nearly horizontal, retrorsely barbed.
Distribucion y Habitat
Bidens squarrosa is wide spread in Neotropical regions from Mexico to Argentina. In Bolivia, it is found in Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, La Paz, Santa Cruz, and Tarija Departments where it is found at forest edges or in slightly open humid lowland and mountain forests, and along roads and trails at el evations between 300 and 3200 m.
